KUALA LUMPUR: Lamenting the grief over the violent attack by the Israeli navy commandos on the international humanitarian aid convoy, about 700 supporters today gathered at the Turkish Embassy to submit a memorandum of support.

The supporters, from Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA), Aman Palestine, Persatuan Belia Islam Nasional (PEMBINA) and several other NGOs, also chorused “Hidup Turkey, Jahanam Israel” (Long live Turkey, Down with Israel) in front of the embassy.

The president of ISMA and executive chairman of Aman Palestine, Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman, said despite the poignant tragedy of the Israeli attack which resulted in 20 being killed and 30 injured. Most of those killed were Turks.

The Turkish government, especially Prime Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan, has been vociferous in condemning the attack.

“Turkey is the patron of the convoy whose mission was to end the siege in Gaza. Turkey stated this openly. Erdogan’s stand against Israel appears  strong and courageous. Erdogan is the new hope for Muslims. No Arab leader has dared to rise up against Israel,” he said.

He added Turkey’s noble stance should be supported and backed with strength.

“Hence, we want to express our support for the Turkish government, especially Erdogan for his firm stand against the Israeli criminals,” he said.
